What is Cor-Ten Steel ?

It is weather resistant steel that protects itself. With anticorrosive properties that slow down corrosion, the range includes grades that are in many applications better than those of other steels. The protective layer develops within 6 months under normal atmospheric conditions provided that the steel surface regularly becomes wet and dry. At first, the protective layer is reddish brown, but gains a darker hue with time. In an industrial atmosphere where sulphur in the air is high the patina is formed quicker and becomes darker in colour than in a rural atmosphere. To read more Click Here

How long does Cor-Ten steel last ?
It Corrodes at 0.01mm per year for the first 10 years and 0.005mm each subsequent year after depending on sulphur content in the air.

Yes, we always email a drawing after the order has been placed. We will mockup a drawing of your proposed sign, for any amendments to be made, for example font choice, spellings and placement of the text before any cutting takes place.

We mainly use 1.5mm, 2mm or 3mm high quality mild steel and 2mm or 3mm Genuine Corten steel to create our signs. The dimensions and materials of each product is outlined in the description box.

How do I care for my Rusty Metal Garden Art?

Rees Metal Designs garden decor does not require maintenance or need protection from our Great British weather. Simply enjoy year after year!

However we do recommend that any wall hanging pieces are offset from the wall by a few millimetres to reduce any staining. We can not guarantee that the rusty metal will not create any marks or stains.

We have a laser cutter, but what is the difference between CNC plasma cutting and CNC laser cutting?

Plasma cutting is a process that cuts through electrically conductive materials by means of a jet of hot plasma.

A metal laser cutter uses a focused laser beam to precisely cut and shape various metals by melting, burning, or vaporizing the material, providing high accuracy and clean edges.

We upgraded our machine to a laser cutter last year, this allows us to cut smaller and intricate designs more accurately.

What is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is a dry finishing process created by an electric charge that causes a dry powder to fuse to the surface of the metal. This is then baked in a curing oven to achieve a smooth coating. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.

Our powder coated products will not require any maintenance apart from an occasional clean with a damp cloth or need protection from our Great British weather.

Powder Coat Colour Choices
